Hind bint Abi Umayya, known as Umm Salama, is one of the great women whose names are etched in the annals of Islamic history. She was born in Mecca to a noble and honorable family. Umm Salama married Abdullah ibn Abd al-Asad al-Makhzumi, and they were among the earliest Muslims who believed in the message of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and joined him in spreading the call to Islam. Together, they endured great hardships for the sake of their faith, including migrating to Abyssinia to escape persecution by the Quraysh and later to Medina. Tragically, her husband passed away after being wounded in the Battle of Uhud.
